Training Program
In April 2010 a new training program was introduced by Nikki Carlsen Victorio. The focus for the training program is creating bonds, developing a relationship with your dog that creates an attitude of trust, mutual respect, and a dog that has a desire to please you. We help handlers understand
the dogs perspective rather than confusing Fido by humanizing him.
Our program helps our shelter dogs become not only more adoptable but more adaptable. Making the transition into their forever home easier. It also gives volunteers the opportunity
to really learn and understand Fido so we can better match and place Fido with the right forever home.
Our next focus is keeping Fido in his new forever home by offering the program to new families so that they can better form bonds, mutual respect, and handling techniques and achieve the relationship they have always desired in their new four-legged family member.
We teach Fido to walk on a loose leash, no jumping, basic commands such as sit, down, stay, come and heel. Fido learns self control, focus, and concentration, and his handlers learn
how to earn and deserve Fido's respect.

Classes are offered every five weeks and in summer start at 6:30 p.m. Classes run for five weeks and require handlers do their homework by practicing methods taught throughout the week. Though our focus is on our own AAS dogs, classes are offered to non-members for a small donation that goes to supporting and caring for our shelter dogs. The class is made fun and entertaining and it is so wonderful to see the dogs transform and their people too.
